Nitrogen Partial Pressure of Stoichiometric and Nonstoichiometric Titanium, Vanadium and Niobium Nitrides and Carbonitrides

چکیده
A method is proposed for calculating the nitrogen equilibrium partial pressure pN2 of stoichiometric and nonstoichiometric nitrides MNy and carbonitrides MCyN1ÿy (M Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta) with B1(NaCl)-type structure. Analytic forms are derived for the composition, nonstoichiometry, and temperature dependences of the nitrogen partial pressure of the afore-mentioned compounds. The partial pressure of N2 for the MNy nitride or MCxNy carbonitrides at a given temperature T is found to be proportional to the pressure of nitrogen for MNyc nitride evaporating congruently at that temperature T. The nitrogen partial pressure pN2 y; T of titanium nitrides TiNy 0:45 y 1:0 and carbonitrides TiCxNy 0:50 x y 1:0; 0 y 1:0, vanadium nitrides VNy 0:55 y 1:0 and carbonitrides VCxNy 0:60 x y 1:0; 0 y 1:0, niobium nitrides NbNy 0:70 y 1:0 and carbonitrides NbCxNy 0:70 x y 1:0; 0 y 1:0 of various compositions at temperatures of 1000 to 2400 K are calculated. The calculation results are compared with the experimental data of literature.

Decorative Titanium Nitride Colored Coatings on Bell-Metal by Reactive Cylindrical Magnetron Sputtering
The transition metal nitrides like titanium nitride exhibit very interesting color variation properties depending on the different plasma deposition conditions using cylindrical magnetron sputtering method. It is found in this deposition study that nitrogen partial pressure in the reactive gas discharge environment plays a significant role on the color variation of the film coatings on bell-met...

Pure uo2 sinters readily at temperatures below 1600°c when non-stoichiometric oxygen introduced during the presintering treatment is available for diffusion and subsequent densification. In the absence of excess oxygen sintering occurs at temperatures above 1600°C by self-diffusion of stoichiometric oxygen in uo2 • Grain growth occurs when open porosity has been eliminated and is controlled by ...
متن کاملCluster expansion Monte Carlo study of phase stability of vanadium nitrides
Phase stability of stable and metastable vanadium nitrides is studied using density functional theory DFT based total-energy calculations combined with cluster expansion Monte Carlo simulation and supercell methods. We have computed the formation enthalpy of the various stable and metastable vanadium nitride phases considering the available structural models and found that the formation enthalp...

Vanadium carbonitrides (VCxN1-x) were prepared via mechanosynthesis from mixtures of elemental vanadium and carbon with different V/C atomic ratios under a nitrogen atmosphere using a high-energy ball mill. We obtained the full composition range of carbonitrides at room temperature. The products were characterized using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and electron energy loss sp...
متن کاملMonolithic Gyroidal Mesoporous Mixed Titanium–Niobium Nitrides
Mesoporous transition metal nitrides are interesting materials for energy conversion and storage applications due to their conductivity and durability. We present ordered mixed titanium-niobium (8:2, 1:1) nitrides with gyroidal network structures synthesized from triblock terpolymer structure-directed mixed oxides. The materials retain both macroscopic integrity and mesoscale ordering despite h...
